Shireen Renée

"Jealousy" Mixed Media Art

"Jealousy" is a mixed media piece showcasing a self portrait of Shireen as the mythological Gorgon, Medusa. The swirling, texturized pattern of painted pistachio shells and oil-painted reptilian eyes is an abstract representation of Medusa's serpentine tresses. As the story goes, Medusa lost her head as a result of Athena's jealous wrath. Her terrifying severed head was used as a weapon to turn anyone who looked at it into stone.
