Jealousy is a striking mixed media self-portrait by Shireen, reimagining herself as the mythological Gorgon, Medusa. The artwork features a swirling, texturized pattern created with painted pistachio shells and oil-painted reptilian eyes, abstractly symbolizing Medusa’s iconic serpentine hair. This piece delves into the mythological tale of Medusa, whose jealousy-fueled transformation led her to lose her head at the hands of Athena. Her severed head, however, became a powerful weapon, capable of turning anyone who gazed upon it into stone.
